3 Reasons Why You Need to Check Your Credit
I know you hear all the time that its a good idea to at least monitor or check up on your credit annually. But do you really need to? YES! It's so important, just like going to the doctor annually for a physical. You have to make sure your credit is in good health also. So I'm going to give you just a quick 3 top reasons why it's a good idea.
1. Correct Information: On your credit report is personal information such as address, phone number, employer etc. If this information is not current or correct you can be denied credit when applied. Or you can be missing notices that are being sent to the wrong address. You can easily call the credit bureaus to update your personal information.
2. Fraud: Eeks, so scary right?! So take charge and check your report regularly to make sure no one is out there using your name to make purchases. You can monitor open and closed accounts to make sure they all belong to you. If you do come across any accounts that do not belong to you and suspect fraud, contact the credit bureau right away to report it. They will work with you and get your report corrected. Sometimes a police report will also need to be filed.
3. Credit Score: It's always nice to know for your own information where your credit score stands. Each credit bureau has their own score scale and you can see where you land on their chart. If you are looking forward to making a purchase in the future it would be great to know if you need to clean some items up or hold steady where you are at. Scores are very important and it is good to work towards a good one.
